Ryan Smyth, Renegade Minds

I'm often asked about AAC and transcoding (converting) it to MP3. While there are some commercial converters available, while fiddling with iTunes can I foudn that it can do this for free. In the deep dark recesses of the preferences, there's a way to convert your M4A files (AAC) to MP3s. Click Edit > Preferences > Advanced (tab) > Importing (subtab) and you'll see this:

If you choose MP3 as the encoder, then back in iTunes the right-click context menu will give you the option to convert M4A files to MP3s. (Or other formats, but not music from the iTunes music store as it's protected with DRM.)

Want to improve your playing? Want to play faster? More accurately? Want to transcribe music? Figure out new songs by ear? New solos?
